Arlington, Virginia – American Trucking Associations is cheering passage of the Ocean Shipping Reform Act, H.R. 4996, which cleared the U.S. House of Representatives by a vote of 364-60 last night. Introduced by Reps. John Garamendi (D-CA) and Dusty Johnson (R-SD), the bill is the first major update for laws governing U.S. maritime port operations in more than 20 years. Global Household Goods Protests Filed with GAO Two losing bidders in the Global Household Goods Contract have filed protests with the Government Accountability Office regarding the award to HomeSafe. American Roll on Roll Off and Connected Global Solutions both filed protests on November 24th to the recent $6.2 billion award. U.S. Transportation Command first awarded the contract to ARC in April 2020, but HomeSafe and Connected Global Solutions, protested the contract. FMCSA Issues NPRM on Household Goods Working Group Recommendations On August 10th the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration issued a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking to implement the Household Goods Working Group Recommendations. These recommendations were included in the recently passed Senate Infrastructure Bill which is awaiting passage by the House of Representatives before it is signed into law.
