Thomas A. Whitaker
Tom is Executive Director of the Kansas Motor Carriers Association, a position he has held since June of 2000. He joined KMCA in August of 1982 as its Director of Governmental Relations. The Kansas Motor Carriers Association is the fourth largest (by membership) state trucking association in the 50-state American Trucking Associations federation.
Tom’s work history includes serving the Kansas trucking industry at the State Capitol, through nine Governors, thirteen secretaries of transportation and four comprehensive transportation programs. Through his 34 years of representing KMCA at the Capitol, Whitaker has created credible relationships with legislators and members of the executive branch of government on behalf of the Kansas trucking industry.
Tom is a Past-President of the Kansas Society of Association Executives and serves on the Board of Directors of Economic Lifelines, a coalition of businesses and government officials concerned with transportation funding. He also serves as Chairman of the Trucking Associations Executive Council which is made up of the 50 State Trucking Association Executives as well as on the Executive Committee and Board of Directors of the American Trucking Associations. He is also a member of the America Society of Association Executives, Topeka Chamber of Commerce and the Kansas Chamber.
Tom is a native Kansan, growing up in Hutchinson, Kansas. He attended Hutchinson Community College, Hutchinson, Kansas, University of Bournemouth, Bournemouth, England and Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas. Tom enjoys Kansas State University sports and golf.
Tom and his wife Vicki reside in Topeka.
