Bio

John D. Esparza, a graduate of Texas Tech University in Lubbock, is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Texas Trucking Association (TXTA), He also serves as the Executive Director of the Southwest Movers Association (SMA). Esparza served as senior advisor and a special assistant to Texas Governor Rick Perry, focusing on policy, legislative and political strategies. Esparza was a personal assistant and aide-de-camp in the Texas Senate to then Lt. Governor Perry. He also served as an assistant to the communications director for State Senator Teel Bivins (R-Amarillo) before joining Perry’s administration. During the late 90’s, Esparza worked extensively on Hispanic outreach under political strategist and advisor Karl Rove, where Esparza served as Governor George W. Bush’s political coalition director. During his time working for Governor Bush, he a member of Governor Bush’s Advance Team, later serving presidential advance trips.  Prior to that, Esparza completed a fellowship with the American Association of Retired Persons, reporting to the state communications director. He earned a bachelors degree in Public Relations with a minor in Marketing. John served six years as a member of the Texas Tech University System Board of Regents, appointed by Former Governor Rick Perry. He is currently the chairman of the board for the Texas Tech University Research Park and manager of the Texas Tech University Research Park Venture Fund LLC.
